This is sadly the attitude of many employees of the Department of Animal "Care" and Control. I personally witnessed one such employee at a recent Downey Animal Shelter protest dragging two small scared dogs across the parking lot on the hot asphalt while the dogs were rolling on the ground. She didn't look back and just kept dragging the dogs. This and what I've described below are just a few examples of why Los Angeles County animals need so much help and why Marcia Mayeda needs to be fired.
Below are photos and video footage of Daniel Robledo stepping on and kicking dogs at the Downey Animal Shelter. Daniel Robledo was fired for this. The Department is home to numerous animal abusers who still work for the Department like Melvin Sparks and Felix Reyes. Felix Reyes dragged a Rottweiler with a broken back across the grounds of the Baldwin Park Animal Shelter and this act of abuse was recorded on camera and witnessed by a family of four. Melvin Sparks allegedly injected animals with air and cleaning solution, drowned squirrels, and injected pigeons with Fatal Plus and then released them to see how far they could fly before dropping to the ground.

This is what taxpayers are paying for.
Although Robledo is no longer at Downey, there are others still in the LA County DACC system who are even worse than him.
Marcia Mayeda needs to be fired. William Fujioka needs to be fired for not getting rid of an incompetent department head who is costing taxpayers even more money with the three lawsuits against the agency.
Sparks was named "Employee of the Quarter" a few months ago... He sure is an example of what a DACC employees are!!!!!!!
The filth is also captured! Dogs adopted from Downey come out with some SERIOUS upper-respiratory infection! Now I know why!!! if the back looks like that, I KNOW they don't disinfect or properly clean the kennel.
Those dogs you pointed out in your emails before photographed on come-along pole... they likely were manhandled and subjected to something similar to what this poor little dog here went through.
Hi Daniel,
Did you send your footage to the news stations? That would get the attention needed to take corrective action!
Send the footage to the news channels!
David Goldstein of KCBS and KCAL
who covered the puppymill bust (World Kennel USA) got this.
Why he's not running with it? who the hell knows. Maybe he's a fan of Mayeda?
We adopted a dog from Downey Animal Shelter in June 2007. They told us he had "kennel cough". We took it to our vet who took an x-ray and diagnosed advanced pneumonia. A week and $1,000 of strong antibiotics cured the little fella and he's living a great life now in West LA with us. The Downey staff at the adoption fair where we got him basically begged us to take him. The message was clear -- he gets adopted by the end of the day or he's a gonner. His first few weeks at our house he was scared to death anytime I'd pick up a broom or have anything in my hand. He would even cower and run if you raised your arms too quickly. Who knows if that was from an experience he had at the shelter or on the streets. Regardless, he's finally come to trust people again -- except for people in uniform.
I used to work for a group called VSA, Volunteer Services To Animals, for many years at the West Los Angeles Bundy Shelter, I tried so hard to save lives and do good but it always felt like we were working against the shelter employees, or they were working against us. Their entire attitude was kill, kill, kill, and cold business. This was years ago, and things may have changed, but posts like this make me sick to my stomach. Well, that and enraged, which is why I dropped out of the animal rights movement for the most part and kind of just focused on doing what I can on my own. I honestly want to kill these people. I know this is strong and offensive language, a terrible statement to make, but we, the public at large, are sending these agencies our precious, hard earned tax dollars, and this is the kind of evil that is being down with them? It just makes me so angry I want to do physical violence to these people, the kind of cruel, evil, violence that they are inflicting on animals. And believe it or not I'm a pacifist. I so wish my friend hadn't sent me this link tonight, then again, like I used to say, if the animals are suffering, then the least we can ask of ourselves is to bear witness. Evil bastards!
